Was my baby given the wrong shoes or should I give it more time?

I had by 10 month old fitted for shoes as she has been walking for 2 weeks. I expected the lady at Start-rite to recommend the first soft shoes but she said she was ready for the normal shoes (something to do with the way she walked). Now we are home, my daughter won%26#039;t walk..she just trips up all the time and the shoes sometimes slip off (the are on the tightest buckle)

Was my baby given the wrong shoes or should I give it more time?
Babys first startingto walk should not be forced into reg shoes, their feet are soft and curved, which is why they need the same kind of shoes. Also they use their squishyness and flexability to help them walk. Store clerk person was an idiot! Baby%26#039;s don%26#039;t even need shoes when they start to walk and shoes have been shown to actually signifigantly inhibit walking. Use thick socks, booties, and soft shoes only till baby has been walking for 4-6 mos. then preferably use hard shoes only outside. always use socks for hard shoes for cusion
Reply:I would think that she would have fitted your baby in a pair of soft shoes also, with laces to give your baby some needed support.

I would not make her wear them all the time, I would try to wean her gradually into using the shoe, around the house you could always put a pr of soft booties on her to keep her feet warm, and her feet will grow so fast that soon she should be wearing them without any difficulty.
Reply:Considering she has only been walking for two weeks, i don%26#039;t think she%26#039;s ready for %26quot;normal%26quot; shoes. She still needs to get acclimated to walking, balance, walking on different surfaces...I%26#039;d recommend that you get her the first shoes...Something with soft and flexible soles...However, i would also not keep shoes on her while she%26#039;s in the house. Barefoot is always best. Just put shoes on her if she were to walk around outside.
Reply:if your at home bare feet is best, are you in UK? clarks really know what they are talking about, think you may need cruising shoes, they are not too hard and not too soft

you say they are slipping off, go back to the shop, they certainly shouldnt be doing that, can cause an accident, they are either too big or not the correct shoes for your daughter
Reply:keep your daughter walking in her barefeet as much as possible, as for the shoes take them back and go to clarks to get her fitted, kids actually only really need shoes when their walking outside, if she%26#039;s not walking outside then ditch the shoes for a while yet!
Reply:where she is really young, she might not fit into the first size shoes. The best way for a child to learn to walk is without shoes, just put soft ones on her, but if she is walking on the streets then just try her with some trainers, as they come up in smaller sizes. Proper shoes have hard soles that may not allow her to bend her foot properly. That could be why she is falling over.
Reply:Go back and get soft shoes. Babies/toddlers use their toes for balance and she can%26#039;t tell how to walk in the harder shoes. My friend was married to an orthopedic, and he said that it is best to let your child go shoeless as long as possible. His kids didn%26#039;t have any shoes (outside of mocassin type) until they entered school.

Good luck!
Reply:Thats a shame, it doesn%26#039;t sound like these new shoes actually fit your daughters feet although kids need time to get used to harder shoes on their feet but they shouldnt be falling off, she may have narrow feet but they should be supporting her as she is walking.

I used Clarks with my son, he got little soft crawling shoes they call them with leather soles and they did him til he needed his first pair of actual shoes. I%26#039;d take her somewhere else and see if you have a different experience. If your in the UK I recommend Clarks - they give you a first photo or your baby in her new shoes and let you know when to come back and get her measured and keep track of her growing feet. Good luck x

When should my baby start wearing shoes?

Well, your baby doesn%26#039;t need shoes until they are walking. Soft little shoes are okay, if you just want to make sure their feet are warm, but save the hard soles for later.

When should my baby start wearing shoes?
Delay it as long as possible, and only have her wear shoes when she is walking on a rough surface. otherwise, booties, socks, barefeet are best for foot development.
Reply:we put soft shoes on my son at about 2 weeks, the doctor saw him in shoes and never said anything. We only put them on him when we leave the house, at home he is in his pj%26#039;s with feeties. If you wanted to put some soft shoes on him I highly recommend Roobez, they are soft and made with real leather so they are very light and not bothersome to the child.
Reply:Other than for looks, babies really don%26#039;t need shoes for support until they start pulling themselves up and start to walk.
Reply:when they start walking
Reply:My doctor said kids dont need to wear shoes until they are walking, and then only if they are walking in public or outdoors.

Shoes are o.k. for special occasions like holidays and pictures. I was told that barefoot is better
Reply:around 10 months is when mine started

how old is your child

they really dont need them till the can walk but i started at 10 months outside so my child could start practicing

best of luck

Reply:I never liked to put shoes on my babies--didn%26#039;t seem natural...I wanted their little feet to grow and wiggle without restrictions! They didn%26#039;t wear shoes until they were walking...so around a year.
Reply:I believe a baby should wear shoes at any age because if they start walking they and they never wore shoes they wont want to wear them.

I feel silly but my feet sweat in most of my shoes. I tried baby powder but it didn't work...?

I wear my shoes while at work and my feet sweat and stink i kick them off while working so it don%26#039;t get bad but i still get like mud almost in them! my feet are clean i clean those shoes daily after i wear them and before i put them on! still not working!

any idea%26#039;s

I feel silly but my feet sweat in most of my shoes. I tried baby powder but it didn%26#039;t work...?
I saw this on Oprah, tried it....it works well.

Dr. Oz said to take 12 teabags of iced tea. Boil water and let the teabags soak until you have a really strong tea. Allow it to cool to room temp.

Soak your feet in it every day for a week for 30 minutes. The tea will %26quot;tan%26quot; your feet, which will dry up the sweat glands. ( I did not notice a color change in my skin, so don%26#039;t worry about your feet becoming dark.)

Good luck!
Reply:You can try rubbing deodorant on the bottoms of your feet before putting on socks and shoes.

You can try corn starch in your shoes

You can also try a product I saw in Walgreens the other day. It is an aerosol type bottle, but you push it down into your shoe to make it spray and it is supposed to help smelly shoes.
Reply:change shoes several times a week if possible.

use a light coating of your regular deodorant on your soles. sprinkle baking soda in the shoes and let it sit over night. empty the shoe before you wear it.
Reply:I use an aersol deodorant, since it will spray a little more evenly than the solid type. Like others have suggested, a powder specially formulated for feet can also help. Cornstarch is another option. Also, Kiwi has a type of dress shoe insert that is lightly scented; they work in other types of shoes as well, but they%26#039;re marketed for dress shoes. I think they%26#039;re called Fesh%26#039;ns or something like that. They%26#039;re super thin and don%26#039;t slide around inside your shoes. Plus, they%26#039;re cheap. Also, when you wear a pair of shoes, let them air dry for at least one day, preferably two before wearing them again. If you can, alternate between 3 pair.
Reply:Get a jar of Boric Acid %26amp; apply a little to your feet each day before you put your shoes on. It soaks up the sweat %26amp; eliminates the odor. When wearing socks with shoes, do the same thing or sprinkle just a wee bit in each sock. It helps to wear only cotton white socks, also.
Reply:Two things you can try - first is a %26#039;natural%26#039; antipersperant, it%26#039;s solid, almost like a big rock of salt, it%26#039;s called a %26#039;crystal%26#039;. You wet it and rub it on the place on your body that you want to inhibit sweating.

Second is an antipersperant/deodorant that contains %26#039;enzymes%26#039;. Enzymes are live cultures that actually eat bio-matter.

Remember, it%26#039;s not your sweat that%26#039;s causing the bad smell, it%26#039;s the bacteria that are present that are causing the bad smell.

I%26#039;d recommend a deodorant with enzymes in it to do the trick.

I know it works, my pets have an additive called %26#039;slurp and fresh%26#039; that I add to their water bowl to make their mouths smell fresh, it contains ENZYMES.

When my dog was a puppy and had accidents in the house I bought a cleaning product at Petsmart called Petzyme, it contains ENZYMES.

Enzymes eat all that biological stuff that causes the smell.

Best place to get the enzyme deodorant is your local healthfood store.
Reply:Well - Here are a few things that you can do to help your sweating foot problem - They make alot of foot deodorizers that you can buy at your local supermarket or drugstore..I think Tenactin makes one and I know Dr. Shoal%26#039;s definitely makes a few products for your problem - They make everything from sprays to foot baths to powders - and these products are specifically designed to help your specific problem - They are inexpensive and work very well - I have personally tried them..especially in the summer time - You have to be careful also in regards to to much sweat on your feet..You can develop Athlete%26#039;s Foot - Especially be careful b/c you are wearing a friends shoes..Hope this helps.
Reply:Get some foot powder, it will work better than baby powder...:)
Reply:Try foot powder not baby powder. also white light socks help. If all else fails can you wear sandles?
Reply:You could try wearing cotton soak´s also you can change the inner sole´s. Pop into your local chemist they will suggest which is best for your feet, They are always very helpful. It could also be the kind of shoes you wear. Ask them for advise
Reply:Try buying some Lavlin food deodorant. You can get it at health food stores or on the internet. It is awesome and I think it helps sweating as well.
Reply:Try using antiperspirant that you would use under your arms. That way it will help keep them dry.
Reply:I saw on oprah one time that if you soak your feet in tea, it can be cold or room temp or what ever. That the natural enzimes in the tea will releive the feet smell . It might stain your feet but not to bad.
Reply:Is it because they%26#039;re cheap shoes?

No offense but smelly feet are usually the result of bad shoes

Try changing your shoes for a different type

Is there a certain time when you should put shoes on your baby? My 10 month old daughter is walking a bit.?

My 10 month old is walking , but really hates any shoes I put on her. Do I really have to put her in shoes especially when it%26#039; s summer and she can be outside barefoot? Will not wearing shoes for a while hurt her later?

Is there a certain time when you should put shoes on your baby? My 10 month old daughter is walking a bit.?
they don%26#039;t need %26#039;em unless they%26#039;re going outside - to protect their feet from sharp things and stinging insects they might step on.
Reply:Neither of my girls wore shoes unless they were walking outside. That%26#039;s really the only time they %26quot;need%26quot; them.

I bought really soft shoes called Robeez. It protected their little feet, but were soft and flexible enough that it didn%26#039;t interfere with them learning to walk.
Reply:Its pretty much up to you i would any time she could hurt her feet otherwise I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it those %26quot;baby%26quot; shoes don%26#039;t have much flexability on the soles alot of times and would be very uncomfortable. I don%26#039;t like shoes much myself but I can%26#039;t see how not wearing them now would hurt her later.
Reply:I just talked to my doctor about the same thing last week. My son started walking, and he hates his shoes. The doc told me around the house barefoot is best. Outside barefoot is only okay on safe (nothing sharp, surface not hot, nothing dangerous he can step in) surfaces. I let him walk on our lawn with no shoes but on concrete, or in public places he has his shoes on. when he isn%26#039;t walking(in a stroller at the mall) i take them off his feet. Babies feet develop better without shoes on, just be very careful about where you let her walk barefoot a child got 2nd degree burns from walking on the asphalt in my city last week.
Reply:I read that when a baby starts walking not to put shoes on them right away because of their balance. When she starts walking a little more and better than put some shoes on her.
Reply:NO YOU DON%26#039;T NEED SHOES ON YOUR BABY!! It%26#039;s easier for babies to learn to walk without shoes. Shoes can actually slow down her progress. No, you don%26#039;t have to put shoes on her outside as long as you know she%26#039;s not going to get into ants or stickers.
Reply:she may not like the shoes, but it is a good thing for her to get used to. when my sister was a baby my parents never put shoes on her. she eneded up walking on her tippy toes until she was about 5/6 years old and they needed to see the doctor to correct that. plus, shoes are for protection. what if she steps in something or on a sharp object that you didnt see? plus...shoes causes less stress on the back and spine, if she is walking around barefoot all the time later on it may effect those areas. just make sure she%26#039;s got the right size shoes on and find a pair she is comfortable in. try open ended shoes, her feet may feel less stuffed....good luck!
Reply:The doctor told me the best thing for them is barefoot.. It helps them with balance and strengthens thier feet and ankles.. unless there is an orthopedic problem. It is up to you.. I make my little ones wear shoes when they are outside and in public..
Reply:With my older son, we didn%26#039;t buy him shoes until he walked outside. He started walking in February, but it was too cold to play outside (we were in Michigan) so we held off on the shoes until May. He%26#039;s 29 months now, and his feet are fine.

My younger son just turned 13 months, and we%26#039;re currently in the market for some shoes.

I wouldn%26#039;t buy shoes for your baby until she walks outside. Letting her walk barefoot is sort of dangerous. You never know what%26#039;s in the grass (ants, bugs, sharp sticks, etc.)
Reply:absolutly not actualy my doc said it is better to not have your baby in shoes till after the age of 1.And it is also cheeper.....who has the money to buy new shoes every month...not me.
Reply:If she is walking put shoes on her I did the same thing. My son didnt wear shoes for the longest time he learned to walk barefooted and it was like learning all over again when he wore shoes.
Reply:Yes when your little one is attempting to walk, start putting proper shoes on her feet. So she learns properly walking. Get them fitted and a good sturdy shoe or even runner. But go in a shoe store for her first pair of shoes, it is very important. Look at some Toddlers feet how bad they walk and you get my point.

Walmart has knockoff crocs. You could also try their webpage http://www.crocs.com
Reply:www.crocs.com but according to their website, they start at a size 4-5. You might try speciality baby stores, such as Babies R%26#039; Us, OshKosh, or the like.
Reply:crocs can actually make your feet sweaty. at least they make mine sweaty, as it was all i could wear when i was pregnant. if you want something that he%26#039;ll be comfy in, how about bare feet?

When did you start putting shoes on your baby?

My daughter is 6.5 months old and although family %26amp; friends have purchased her several pairs of really cute shoes, she%26#039;s never had them on her feet. I just don%26#039;t see a need for her to wear shoes. When do they really need to start wearing them? Will it interfere with walking (when she gets to that stage, we%26#039;re not even crawling yet!)? At home and sometimes even when we go out I either leave her barefoot with a little blankie over her legs or I put socks on her (we live in FL so it%26#039;s pretty warm most of the year).

When did you start putting shoes on your baby?
I stopped using baby booties when my son outgrew the biggest size I could find -which is like 24months (which of course he outgrew at like 16 months). I would have kept him in soft soled leather shoes like Robeeze but they don%26#039;t fit his pudgy feet so I went to a million kids stores until I found deck-shoes that were soft soled.

He just got his first pair of %26quot;real%26quot; shoes, he hates them. The only reason he has them is to put bobskates on.

Barefoot is BEST, even once a baby learns to walk. Fitted booties (cotton or wool, etc) are better than stretchy socks (which can put pressure on the feet), then comes socks, then as a distant last shoes. I%26#039;d rank robeez as about the same as fitted booties. But I prefer cotton in summer, wool in winter.

Shoes should basically only be worn in situations where other options are unsafe.

http://www.babycenter.ca/toddler/caringf...

A baby who%26#039;s just started walking takes 176 steps a minute!

Experts say that the longer a child is allowed to walk without shoes, the better as this will allow their feet to develop naturally. Certainly when your toddler starts learning to walk indoors, let her walk barefoot as long as the floor is clean and safe, as this allows the feet to develop and strengthen without restriction.

Once your baby can take a few steps confidently and may be walking outdoors on rough surfaces, protect her feet with early first shoes made of flexible, lightweight and natural materials, such as soft leather, with flexible soles and non-skid bottoms.

http://happyfeetz.com/category/how_to_ch...

Shoes are not corrective and the foot does not need support for normal activities. The foot requires mobility to function normally. It has been demonstrated that populations that are predominantly bare foot have better feet than those that wear shoes.

Children’s feet grow and develop rapidly. So choosing an appropriate child%26#039;s shoe is a very important task. While at home bare feet are fine.

http://www.footankle.com/pdf/Your_Chilre...

There is controversy regarding the appropriate

shoes for children to wear as their feet grow and

develop. Barring such problems as severe flat

feet, or excessively flexible feet, it is perfectly

appropriate to allow your child to be barefoot

much of the time. Certainly while in the home

environment, bare feet are fine. The goal of children

wearing shoes is primarily to provide a protective

covering for the foot. Once protected,

the foot can develop into a healthy, functioning

structure.

Footwear and Shoe Fitting

Children should not wear shoes at all until they can walk, so avoid pram shoes. For babies, avoid tightly wrapped blankets that prevent kicking and leg movement and avoid baby-grows (unless you cut the foot out).

Walking bare foot, where it is safe, is good for feet. Children%26#039;s feet are vulnerable to deformity from any ill-fitting footwear/hosiery until the bones are completely formed at about 18 years of age. Fitted socks made from natural materials are much better than stretch-fit socks.
Reply:I purchase shoes when my kids started walking 80 to 90% of the time. In the beging when they moving from crawling to walking is important to be barefoot so they get a better feel and balance. If it is witer at that time, like it was for me, I put non-slip socks on them. My first started at 12 months, my second at 14 months. And even then, I put shoes on them only when we go out. If they are in the house, they will only have the non-slip socks on (the ones with the %26#039;rubber%26#039; designs on the bottom). If you cannot find them by you, you can make some by adding some dots of fabric puff paint to the bottom of socks. They need their feet free to grow.
Reply:I didn%26#039;t put shoes on my daughter until she was walking (which was actually really early at 9 months) - but then ONLY when we were going out somewhere. At home, she was always barefoot and that%26#039;s best. Hard soled shoes are not good for a baby%26#039;s development - they need to be able to feel the floor underneath them and it helps them to stay balanced. Barefoot or the closest thing to it (soft soled shoes) is definitely best until they are established walkers. I also live in FL so we%26#039;d only do shoes if we were going out somewhere, for foot protection.
Reply:It will not interfere with walking. On the contrary, whenever she starts pulling up and acting like she%26#039;s trying to walk, a good pair of supportive shoes will help a lot with her balance. The athletic types of shoes are usually good for this purpose -because they are soft inside, yet supportive without having the hard sole like the really old-timey baby shoes did.

But for now, she doesn%26#039;t absolutely need them. I always put shoes on my kids from birth whenever we left the house, just like I do, but didn%26#039;t keep them on at home. I just feel funny about going out without shoes, but it%26#039;s a personal quirk.
Reply:I started when she was just a month old and she looked adorable! Don%26#039;t listen to ppl who say babies shouldn%26#039;t wear shoes and that it%26#039;s bad for their feet--- i think they are referring to ppl who bit clunky, stiff tennis shoes on their babies and leave them on for a long time. There are tons of %26quot;crib shoe%26quot; that are very soft and roomy that go easily on a babies feet that do no harm especially when you only wear them out for an hour or two. My baby hardly ever wears shoes but I love when she does because they look cute but sometimes they look so awkward because they look unnatural hahahah.... It%26#039;s your call :-) As long as you%26#039;re happy, you%26#039;re baby is happy and you aren%26#039;t doing anything to inhibit proper growth :-)

ADD: By the way, when she does start walking you do not need a supportive shoe or ankle support, her body will develop naturally if she doesn%26#039;t. It inhibits the baby from learning to balance and use full rotation capability of both feet. It%26#039;s actually best to use something very soft and flexible, low and maybe some form of grip (doesn%26#039;t have to be rubber, leather is fine) so she isn%26#039;t sliding around- if not just socks.
Reply:When they start to walk. My daughter is 5 months and she never wore shoes.
Reply:Babies have no need for shoes until after they have mastered walking and are going outside. However we live in a cold climate so I put shoes on my 6 month old when we go out for warmth.
Reply:If they are only soft bootee shoes then it%26#039;s ok but you%26#039;re not supposed to put proper %26#039;%26#039;support%26#039;%26#039; shoes on till they walk because it messes up foot growth.
Reply:I have been putting cute baby shoes on my baby (5.5 months) since she was born. I just did this because I thought it looked so cute! As she is getting older, I%26#039;m not going to buy anymore cheep cutesie shoes because she is starting to like to move and stand up holding on to my fingers. The only shoes I will buy now are high quality leather soft soled shoes like Robeez and Pediped. It is recommended that you only let your baby wear this type of shoe or go barefoot when they are learning to walk. So don%26#039;t worry, your daughter doesn%26#039;t need shoes now. Although when she does start crawling and walking you might want to get some soft soled shoes to protect her feet!
Reply:My daughter has been wearing shoes since she was born. I had a ton of cute shoes to go with outfits. That said, she only wore them going out someplace, never really around the house.

She is now a year, and will still wear soft soled shoes when we go out (we live in Michigan....cold!).
Reply:My daughter received some cute Robeez shoes when she was born so she has always worn shoes when we go out of the house. I have been stockpiling these shoes in many sizes over the months LOL. The Once Upon a Child store near our house stocks new Robeez and often they put the patterns from last season on sale so I grab them whenever I can!

I love them and they are recommended as first walking shoes by my daughter%26#039;s pediatrician. She is barefoot at home all the time but when she goes out she now walks in these shoes everywhere at 10 months old. They are also great because they are baby-proof. My daughter has never been able to take them off.
